Drug Addiction and Your Baby

Suffering withdrawal symptoms but why?
My mummy and her drugs did sing me a lullaby
I cry out into the silence in vain
My mummies ears are closed to my pain
Convulsions my tiny body distorts …..why?
Cos my mummy and her drugs couldn’t say goodbye
Amid the debris of mankind she now lies
Her heart and ears are closed to my cries
The next fix is all she can think about
Respiratory distress I’m blacking out
My body invaded by tubes and drips
As mummy disappears on one of her trips
With no mummy to heal my pain
My cries are silenced but not by shame
The gentle touch of another’s hand
A nurse whispers ……………I understand
